12. Cole Fuchs- Choice (02/28/2023)

When we watched the Cod is Dead episode it is what truly inspired me to start thinking about ways to help out the fishing culture we have.  With a few boxes there were half a million dollars in a warehouse in oysters but yet they will not feed that many people in general but are being charged so much.  Partially due to human greed and up charging a bunch for food, but also supply and demand being low.  Supply is low and demand is high bringing the price up.  This is a problem because it will drive more people to catch more and more so they can make more money which will drive the price up more and make the populations of oysters and other fish go farther and farther down which will eventually not be able to recover when they go so far down they are destined to fail.  There should be more oyster farms being put up for a few reasons.  Oysters breed fast and abundantly, and they can also grow on many different surface areas making them easy to take care of.  They are also filter feeders which can help the ocean and make it more clear and safe of excessive levels of nitrogen and other abundant chemicals.  This would supply a stable food source as well as many other benefits and can make a lot of money as well as other plus sides for the environment and the wild populations allowing them to recover.
