13. Cole Fuchs- Chapter 4 (04/21/2023)
In chapter 4 it eventually mentions Gilbert White and his mostly self-sufficient society. The book mentions that Whites food, water, and entire way of life is sustainable and sufficient. I think that to a degree people in real life need to get to a point where some things are sufficient such as a garden in their backyard. This would eliminate space needed to grow vegetables in stores and in fields were harder things to grow can be grown. I say this because I have a garden at home and it makes a great hobbies, the food tastes amazing, it looks beautiful, helps add to a compost pile giving natural compost and nutrients for the next years nutrients, and its helping grow plants which help the environments and ecosystems carbon intake. Gardens are amazing things to have help and to think if everyone had one then we could free up tons of space taken to grow vegetables for the entire population when it can be done at home with less space, its more sustainable, their will be less waste, and when their is waste it will go to the next years food supply. Just that little passage in Chapter 4 helped me formulate what could be an amazing future if implemented due to wear crops can be grown. They can be grown on roofs of buildings were nothings usually put, window sides, and just little plots in back yards such as along a fence or in a corner of the property where sun can hit the plants.
