Aaron Allen - Spiritual Journey Versus Aesthetic Tourism (Outside Reading 2)
This reading was one that I enjoyed as I typically take hikes during the summer. I could draw a personal connection to this reading because I have taken hikes in numerous places. My two favorite places that I have hiked are Hawaii and the Dominican Republic. In Hawaii, I went on a hike with my sister up Mount Kaala. This reading brought back the amazing views and experiences I had when I was vacationing in Hawaii. I also took the time hiking in Hawaii as a way to appreciate the different aspects of nature. I realized that nature was created by God and given to us to value. During my hike, we would often take time to stop and thank the lands for their beauty and contributions to society as they often go unrecognized. In the Dominican Republic, I saw a different type of nature on my hike. The country is not fully developed and many areas of the island are not pleasing to people. However, if people would give it a chance and adventure out, they would be able to appreciate what was given to us.
