Aaron Allen - What does nature mean? (free response 5)
This article grabbed my attention as I have been asked this question multiple times in my life. I find it to be an interesting question as it seems to have such a simple answer at first. However, this is not the case as there are different ways to answer this depending on the perspective you look at it from. This article follows this idea by stating that the word nature has been evolving over time and does not have a set definition. In the article, it says that nature is only simply defined for legal reasons as there are protections put forth to preserve the environment. I fully support this idea of giving a baseline definition and allowing for others to interpret the term on their own. This allows for a better understanding and unique aspects to be put in the world of science. Ultimately, the article claims that nature is an abstract concept in which different societies have influenced the understanding. The one question I have for this article is: Does nature have a fully open definition or are there certain characteristics that constitute something being considered "nature" or "natural".
