Beverley Arbogast Blog Post 1 (Analysis of Chapter 1: Environmental Studies and Environmentalism)
From what I have learned this semester and from the reading my analysis of this chapter and this section of the class was: environmental studies and environmentalism are two interconnected concepts that have gained significant attention in recent years. Environmental studies refers to the scientific study of the environment, including its physical, chemical, and biological components. It encompasses a wide range of disciplines such as ecology, geology, geography, and atmospheric science.
On the other hand, environmentalism is a social movement that advocates for the protection and preservation of the natural environment. It seeks to raise awareness about environmental issues such as climate change, pollution, deforestation, and biodiversity loss.
Environmental studies provide a scientific basis for understanding environmental problems while environmentalism provides a platform for advocating solutions to these problems. Together they form an essential framework for addressing global environmental challenges.
The importance of these concepts cannot be overstated as human activities continue to have significant impacts on the environment. As such, it is crucial that we continue to explore ways in which we can protect our planet while also meeting our economic needs.
