I am presenting my research at Paideia, which involves contributing new information to the carbon budget of the great dismal swamp. Most reviews of the carbon budget have only involved peat, but there is a lot of woody materials, such as logs, that are much denser than peat. This means that more carbon is being sequestered in this area than what was originally thought. This evidence will hopefully be utilized in updating the current carbon budget which will also add value to peatlands making restoration efforts more valuable.
