Outside Reading 2: The Need for Landscapes for Human Well-being and Good Mental Health.https://landvision.co.uk/the-need-for-landscapes-for-human-well-being/
I took a dive into reading about the significance of natural landscapes to build off the chapter in the textbook about how necessary nature landscapes are to humans and other biotic species. The article discusses that humans naturally need the viewing of natural landscapes in an area to cope with stress and to better their well-being. This has been proven after times of war and more recently COVID-19 when many people were isolated inside. I also found interesting that the human need for natural landscapes is engraved into our brains from the time when we were hunter-gatherers and needed the landscape to live on. For our mental health it is very crucial that we take time away from screens and technology and reflect in the outdoors as a way to calm ourselves down. The natural landscapes also releases serotonin which is the happy gland in our brain that shoots of chemicals of dopamine when we encounter natural landscapes.
