Personal blog #4 Self pollinating reflection
I would like to reflect on the bee documentary that was viewed earlier in this semester. Comparing it to the bee movie, it is true how significant these insects are to the local community. When I worked at my botanical garden I went on a trip to try and self pollinate a species of rare orchids native to Pennsylvania. These orchids could not be polluted by bees, only a butterfly local to the area. I had to take the seeds from the mother plant and place them on the seeds of the other plant in order to help pollinate and take care of the butterflies job. They ended up reproducing a few months later after tagging them and setting up cameras to watch the growth process. This was a very cool realization as to how important bees jobs are throughout the pollinating season.
