Sam Ziemba: Class Reading 5: Where is nature's body

This reading was fascinating to me because it got me thinking about a question I had never thought of: What is nature? and Where is nature?  To me, I had the idea that nature is just any outdoor place separated from human development. I associated nature with expansive forested areas or land that appears “untouched”. But upon reading, I realized that nature is different for everyone. For someone living in New York City, all they may know of nature is a park produced by humans. But does human planting make it less apart of nature? For people living in less developed wooded areas, nature may have a different meaning and boundary line. Growing up in a suburban neighborhood in Virginia Beach, my idea of nature was the beach or the forested park in my neighborhood. But after moving to the mountains, getting out in “nature” looks completely different. Nature is different based on the person and there is no property line marking where nature is.
