Scottie Gilg- chapter 1: Environmental Studies and Environmentalism (class book 5)

Rereading Chapter 1, environmental studies and Environmentalism, made me reflect on how different our world has become. We have such a disconnect with nature compared to how it used to be. For example, almost everything we buy and sell is outsourced and mostly comes from places like China. Instead of working with the earth, we are destroying it for our gain. I found it interesting when they explained how the imprint of humans is everywhere and, typically, is not in a positive way. Things like air, ground, and water pollution see species dwindling due to hunting or destruction of their habitats, and so many more. Honestly, reading this chapter just made me remember how selfish human society is. They take and use what they want without considering who it affects. I also enjoyed reading at the end of the chapter, the section called "our approach." It mentions how searching for an environmentally responsible and sustainable future is an intellectual pursuit separate from environmental activism
